Declawing cats

The Nest does not support the declawing of cats.  The procedure for declawing is much more extreme than most people realize.  It is not like trimming a cat’s fingernails, it is more akin to chopping off the end of your fingers, including the entire nail.  You can learn more here:

Cats do scratch, and that can hurt or tear up your belongings.  Despite popular belief, it is possible to train cats.  They can be trained to scratch only in certain places.  Their nails can also be trimmed, just like yours.  You could also consider claw covers, which can help make a cat’s scratches less destructive.  One brand is advertised here:  http://www.softpaws.com/

If you are looking for a cat who is already declawed, there are many such animals in shelters.  Don’t declaw another cat!
